An upstairs landing and stairwell repainted end to end. Trim-heavy rooms are where a paint job is actually judged: every piece of crown, casing and baseboard is a line that either reads straight or does not, and no amount of good paint fixes bad preparation.
What the job involved
Preparation
Patching, sanding and caulking every joint in the crown, casing and baseboard before any finish coat. Caulk is what turns two pieces of wood into one line.
Priming
The right primer for the substrate — bare filler, previously painted trim and patched drywall do not take the same product.
Walls and ceilings
Cut in by hand at the ceiling and along every trim edge, then rolled, so the line is sharp without relying on tape to hide a wandering brush.
Trim, casing and rail
Crown, door casing, baseboard and the stair rail finished in white against the wall colour, which is what makes the trim read as deliberate rather than leftover.
Protection
Floors covered and furniture protected every day of the job, not just the first one.
